Henry Tandy fought for the british army throughout WWI. He participated in the battle of the somme as well as the battle of passchendale. Tandy was later Awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery, although some people beleive that Tandy's actions may have allowed WWII to occur. Near the end of the war Tandy came across a wounded German soilder limping across a road in France. He raised his rifle to fire but found that he could not bring himself to kill a wounded man. In 1938 when prime minister Chamberline visited Hitler, Hitler told him this story and made sure he personaly called Tandy to thank him for sparing his life.
